Acupuncture has been continuously practiced in the Asia, mainly in China, Korea, and Japan for thousands of years. It was introduced to the Western world about three centuries ago, and is now practiced throughout the world.
Although the introduction of this highly effective form of medicine to America was relatively recent, it has become one of the fastest growing forms of health care in the United States. Its effectiveness in healing wide range of conditions with few side effects and relatively low cost contributes to its rise in popularity.
Acupuncture treatment is administered by inserting fine needles into the skin at specific points along the pathway of energy in order to restore balance and harmony to the body. This vital energy, or Qi (pronounced chee) moves through the body in precise channels supporting functions of the body, mind and spirit.
When Qi energy is obstructed or moving disharmoniously, the resulting imbalance begins to surface in the form of specific symptoms. The gentle insertion of hair thin needles at specific points along the channels of Qi energy, helps restore harmony. Patients are often amazed by the fact that such subtle treatments can resolve various symptoms and improve energy and vitality.
Acupuncture has been used to treat a variety of conditions from ancient times to the present. It has been cited by the World Health Organization (WHO) to treat more than 43 common disorders including;
Gastrointestinal disorders, such as food allergies, peptic ulcer, chronic diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, gastrointestinal weakness, anorexia and gastritis
Urogenital disorders, including stress incontinence, urinary tract infections, and sexual dysfunction
Gynecological disorders, such as irregular, heavy, or painful menstruation, infertility in women and men, and premenstrual syndrome
