So-Eum-In (SE Type)

So-Eum-Ins tend to have slim and well proportioned body. There is
less obesity found in this type. If there is obesity in this type, they
tend to gain more in their lower half of the body. (like pear type)

Generally, they have wider proportion of pelvis and less developed
chest than other body types. Some of them may show both chest
and pelvis well developed.

So-Eum-Ins have stronger kidney function and weaker digestive
system. Due to their weak digestive system, they are more prone
to stomach problems. They may be often experiencing such
conditions as poor digestion, bloating, stomachache, diarrhea, etc.
Some SE types express they rarely have stomach problem and
have good appetite. This group of SE sometimes exhibit the
tendency of constipation.

Digestive system is the source of energy production. If this system
is weak, the persons’ overall energy may be weak. The general
good digestion of foods is the sign of good health in this group.

Due to the excessive tendency of kidney, which is related to water
metabolism and cooling system of the body, coldness may
accumulate inside. So-Eum-Ins tend to feel cold easily. Many of
them do not like cold shower and air conditioning even during the
summer. Generally, warm foods and drinks are recommended.

In personality, they tend to be soft, gentle and calm.

So-Yang-In (SY type)

So-Yang-Ins have well developed chest and smaller pelvis. Men
tend to have well built body and many women are glamorous in
this type. There may be some overweight So-Yang-Ins. In such
cases, their upper body is bigger compared to the lower body (like
apple type) and belly tends to protrude forward, rather than
widened to the side.

So-Yang-Ins have stronger digestive system and weaker kidney, in
contrast to So-Eum-Ins. SY's rarely have stomach problem. They
eat and digest well. If they have digestive problems, they are
mostly originated from the overactive tendency of their digestive
system.

Due to their weak kidney, which is considered as the source of the
prenatal essence and true yin energy in oriental medicine, they
tend to have yin deficiency symptoms, which manifests in frequent
lower back pain, knee weakness, muscle cramps, sometimes
hypersexual drives which leads to further damage to the yin of the
body.

So-Yang-Ins also tend to produce more body heat than other body
types, resulting in more prone to inflammation. SY types are more
susceptible to diabetes and stroke. When SY’s have constipation,
they feel much discomfort due to the accumulation of heat inside.
Good regular bowel movements are the good sign of health in this
type.

This type of people tends to put their interests outward. They, in
nature, like to help other people and do business outside.

Tae-Eum-In (TE type)

Tae-Eum-Ins tend to have wide bally and thick waist. They are
physically large, heavier, and thick-boned. This gives them stable
appearance. Many experience slow metabolism.  This type often
holds more mass and embody easily. Though some of TE types
possess thinner build, obesity is often found in this type.

TE type tends to be very healthy when young or as long as they
maintain physically active life style. Unfortunately, many of TE
types do not like physical activities and tend to develop heavy
eating habits. As grow older, they are more susceptible to high
blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease. The
key to staying healthy is regular exercise. Pleasant sweating is a
good sign of health in this type.
TE types has relatively weaker lung and stronger liver. Liver has
the function of accumulating things inwardly, whereas lung has
outward dispersing aspect, according to the theory of Sasang
Medicine.

Due to the weakness of lung, they generally have weak respiratory
and circulatory systems. Some people experience asthma,
shortness of breath, or heart palpitation.

Due to their stronger livers, TE types have plenty of flesh and
blood. This mean generally they have abundant energy inside and
endure well against outside pathogen.

Tae-Yang-In (TY type)

Tae-Yang-Ins have well-developed upper body especially shoulder
and neck and relatively weak lower body. They have stronger lung
and weak liver as opposed to Tae-Eum-In.

This type is generally healthy and energetic. They tend to meet
people and speak out things without hesitation. In doing things,
they like to go forward and do not like to look back. Timidity and
hesitation are not the vocabularies of this type.

When they become unhealthy, they tend to suffer from difficulty
swallowing down the food through esophagus. Sometimes, they
feel weakness of lower extremities without clear reason. Many of
this type tend to do better with vegetable and fish in diet, rather
